I have been spending a lot of time lately dialing in my CSM 720 on a Raptor 50 Titan and a friends Raptor 50.
I will start by saying no two helicopters are the same but this should give you an idea of how things work.
For this particual setup I was using a hitec 6965 servo.
I mounted the gyro in the rear of the helicopter in the standard fashion using zeal tape to mount the gyro.
Servo arm length is 17mm
Setup the gyro according to the directions that are supplied
Now for the funstuff !
I changed the following parameters in the software
Set the servo up for 1520 pulse width and 333 frames
Stick deadband to 55
Piro start rate at 4650
Piro stop at 4650
Accceleration gain to 40
Conventional gain to 85
Heading lock gain to 54
I have 79% transmitter gain and turned up the rudder ATV to 125 each side.
All I can say is this is a whole new animal now the stops and starts are hard and precise, the tail is more rock solid than ever, dont get me wrong it was good on the defaults but now its AWESOME!
The second Raptor had a bad tail wag using the 17mm servo arm, I shortened it to 15mm and the wag went away but the tail wasnt holding well on the stock settings. We changed the servo arm length back to 17mm and lowered the conventional gain and the heading lock gain until we could run 75%+ on the radio gain. If your not getting transmitter gains in the high 70s you need to try these changes they work !
Here's a rule of thumb that helped me sort things out
If your getting high transmitter gains with low holding power increase the length of the servo arm.
If your holding solid at low transmitter gains shorten the servo arm so that you can increase the transmitter gain, your shooting for mid 70s.
IF you get a wag that you just cant make go away lowering the conventionl and heading lock gains in the software should get rid of it.
The vibration filter comes into play when your gyro mounting is a little on the stiff side you can turn the filter on and it will help reduce wag,the best thing to do is change the mount to a softer one and keep the filter off.
If you get it to far off you can always set the gyro back to default and start again.
Like I stated earlier it was holding well before, now its AWESOME !
Don't forget you must do the quick trim setup every time you enter the programming mode !
ENJOY !!!
I will be adding a video of the gyro in action soon so check out the video page next month
